What is a gear pump?


The concept of gear pump is very simple. Its simplest form is that two gears of the same size comb and rotate together in a tight housing. The outer diameter and both sides of the gear are closely matched to the housing. The material from the extruder enters the center of the two gears at the suction opening, fills the space, moves along the housing with the rotation of the teeth, and is finally ejected when the two teeth interlock.


What are the working steps of the gear pump?


When the gear pump is working, the drive wheel rotates with the motor and drives the driven wheel to rotate with it. When the combing teeth on one side of the suction chamber are gradually separated, the volume of the suction chamber increases and the pressure decreases, and the liquid in the suction line is sucked into the pump; the suction fluid is pressed by gears in two ways in the tooth groove to the pressure chamber. After the liquid enters the discharge chamber, the liquid is pushed out of the discharge chamber into the discharge tube due to the continuous combing of the teeth of the two gears. The drive wheel and output wheel rotate continuously, and the pump can continuously suck and release the liquid.

The pump body is equipped with a safety valve. If the conveying pressure exceeds the specified pressure, the conveying fluid can automatically open the safety valve, so that the high-pressure fluid returns to the suction line.


How do I deal with the leakage of the gear pump?


The leakage of the gear pump is relatively large, and the leakage path of the outer combing gear has the following three points: one is the upper clearance of the gear, the second is the clearance measurement, and the third is the engagement play.

Among these, the leakage of the end surface side play is relatively large and accounts for 80% to 85% of the total leakage. If the pressure increases, the former does not change, but the deflection of the latter greatly increases. This is the main reason for leakage of the external gear pump. The volumetric efficiency is low, so it is not suitable for use as a high-pressure pump.

Solution: The end face backlash compensation adopts static pressure compensation measures, and between the gear wheel and the cover plate is added a balancing part, such as a floating bushing and a floating side plate.
