What role does the turbocharger play?

The turbocharger uses the high-temperature exhaust gas from the engine to drive the turbine rotating in the turbine. The turbocharger consists of an exhaust-powered turbine, a compressor compressing fresh air, an intermediate body supporting bearings, and a bypass valve control mechanism.

  • What role does the turbocharger play?

  • How does a turbocharger work?

  • What are the precautions for using turbochargers?

What role does the turbocharger play?

1. Increase the engine power. If the displacement of the engine remains unchanged, the density of the intake air can be increased to allow the engine to inject more fuel, thereby increasing the performance of the engine. The power and torque of the engine should increase by 20% to 30% after adding a compressor. In contrast, if the same output power is required, the cylinder diameter of the engine can be reduced and the volume and weight of the engine reduced.

2. Improve engine emissions. turbocharger engines reduce the emission of harmful components such as particulate matter and nitrogen oxides in the engine exhaust gases by improving the combustion efficiency of the engine. It is an indispensable configuration for diesel engines to meet exhaust standards via Euro II.

3. Provide the function of platform compensation. At some altitudes, the higher the altitude, the thinner the air becomes, and the turbocharged engine can overcome the power drop of the engine caused by the thin air on the plateau.

4. Improve fuel consumption and reduce fuel consumption. Due to the better combustion performance of the turbocharged engine, 3%-5% fuel can be saved.

How does a turbocharger work?

The turbocharger uses the high-temperature exhaust gas of 700–900 degrees Celsius emitted by the engine to drive the turbine in the turbine to turn. The turbine shaft drives the impeller in the compressor to rotate at high speed, compresses the air centrifugally and increases the intake density of the engine to 2-3 atmospheres. In this way, we can inject more fuel into the engine to achieve the purpose of increasing the engine's own power.

What are the precautions for using turbochargers?

After starting the engine, especially in winter, it should run idle for some time so that the lubricating oil can completely lubricate the bearings before the turbocharger rotor runs at high speed. Therefore, do not step on the accelerator pedal after starting to avoid damage to the oil seal of the compressor.

When disassembling, keep the turbocharger clean and seal each pipe connection with a clean cloth to prevent foreign objects from falling into the turbocharger and damaging the rotor. During maintenance, care must be taken not to collide and damage the impeller. If the impeller needs to be replaced, it should undergo a dynamic balancing test. After the assembly is complete, remove the blockage. Its lubricating oil pipeline is subject to high temperature, and the internal oil is prone to partial coking, which will cause damage to the supercharger bearing due to insufficient lubrication. Therefore, the lubricating oil line should be cleaned after a period of operation.

Guangzhou HERUI, which has existed for more than ten years, focuses on the production of turbochargers. Here you will find the turbochargers you need.
