The cylinder block is the main body of the engine, which connects each cylinder and the crankcase, and is the supporting skeleton for installing the piston, crankshaft, and other parts and accessories. The structural form of the cylinder block is usually divided into a general cylinder block, a gantry type cylinder block, and a tunnel type cylinder block.

What kinds of cylinder blocks are there?
General cylinder block: This type of cylinder block is characterized in that the oil pan installation plane and the crankshaft rotation center are at the same height. The advantages are that the body height is small, the weight is light, the structure is compact, it is easy to process, and the crankshaft is easy to disassemble.
Gantry block: This block is characterized by the oil pan mounting plane being below the crankshaft's center of rotation. Its advantages are good strength and rigidity, can withstand large mechanical loads, simple and reliable sealing, and convenient maintenance; but its lack of salt is poor in manufacturability and difficult to process.
Tunnel-type cylinder block: The main bearing hole of the crankshaft of this type of cylinder block is integral, using rolling bearings, the main bearing hole is larger, and the crankshaft is loaded from the rear of the cylinder block. Its advantages are compact structure, good rigidity and strength; but its disadvantages are high requirements on machining accuracy, poor manufacturability, and inconvenient disassembly and assembly of the crankshaft.
What are the parts of the cylinder block?
The composition of the cylinder is as follows:
1. Cylinder, the inner diameter of the cylinder represents the output force of the cylinder. The piston should slide smoothly back and forth in the cylinder, and the surface roughness of the inner surface of the cylinder should reach Ra0.8μm;
2. The end caps are provided with inlet and exhaust ports, and some are also provided with buffer mechanisms in the end caps. The rod side end cover is provided with a sealing ring and a dust ring to prevent air leakage from the piston rod and prevent external dust from mixing into the cylinder;
3. Piston, the piston is the pressure part in the cylinder. In order to prevent the left and right cavities of the piston from blowing gas from each other, a piston sealing ring is provided. The wear-resistant ring on the piston can improve the guiding of the cylinder, reduce the wear of the piston sealing ring, and reduce the frictional resistance;
4. Piston rod, the piston rod is the most important force-bearing part in the cylinder. Usually high carbon steel is used, the surface is treated with hard chrome plating, or stainless steel is used to prevent corrosion and improve the wear resistance of the sealing ring;
5. The sealing ring, the sealing of the parts in the rotary or reciprocating motion is called the dynamic seal, and the sealing of the static part is called the static seal.
What are the characteristics of the cylinder block?
The working conditions of the cylinder block are very bad. It has to withstand the rapid changes in pressure and temperature during combustion and the strong friction of the piston movement. Therefore, it should have the following properties:
① It has sufficient strength and rigidity, small deformation, and ensures the correct position of each moving part, normal operation, and low vibration and noise.
② It has good cooling performance, and there is a cooling water jacket around the cylinder so that the cooling water can take away the heat.
③ Wear-resistant to ensure that the cylinder block has sufficient service life.
Guangzhou HERUI as a Chinese pioneer in this area, can ensure the cylinder blocks’ quality and after-sales service.
